Our Program 

Our well respected recreational program is designed for dancers who might be taking dance for the first time or dancers who have been dancing since they were two. Our recreation classes are structured classes that focus on teaching correct technique and terminology while having fun along the way.  We offer a wide range of classes. Year Round: 
Our year long classes participate in our annual recital in June at the Lied Center in Lawrence, KS.  

8 Week Session:
8 week classes do not have a formal performance.

Length 

Year Round:
Dance year starts September 9th and goes through recital in June. 

8 Week Session: 
Each session is 8 weeks long. We have four sessions throughout our dance year. Starting in September, January, March, and June.

Price 

Year Round:
There is an annual registration fee of $35 per family when you enroll. Tution is $60 per month for one class a week. If you enroll in automatic withdrawal 

8 Week Session: 
It is $95 per session or $75 for Tiny 2’s. 

Class Time 

Year Round: 
Students come once a week for a 50 minute calss. Tiny 2’s come once a week for a 30 minute class. 

8 Week Session: 
Students come once a week for 8 weeks for a 50 minute class. Tiny 2’s come once a week for 8 weeks for a 30 minute class. 

Instruction 

Year Round:
Year round classes are structured classes focusing on correct technique and terminology. Students learn dance routines for our annual recital in June. 

8 Week Session: 
8 week sessions are an introduction to dance. This is a good class to start if you are unsure about a committment to a year long class.

Policies and Procedures 

Registration: 
A non – refundable registration fee is required yearly at time of registration. 

Payment of Fees:
Tutition will be paid through automatic withdraw on the 5th of each month, through June. For your convenience , our ten month dance session is broken down into monthy payments. Additional siblings receive a 25% discount. The first month of tuition must be paid at the time of registration. If you choose to opt out of automatic withdraw an additional administration fee of $5.00 will be charged each month. Additionally, your May and June tuition will be due in May. All accounts past due after the 10th of the month will be charged a $10.00 late fee. All returned checks will be charged a $10.00 service fee. The month of September is non-refundable. 

Class Supplies: 
All students participating in the year – end recital need to purchase required class supplies at Leigh’s School of Dance Wear Shop by Janurary 1st. Shoes must be worn to class. Ballet shoe strings need to be tied and tucked in or clipped. Please clearly mark student’s name on all property. Leigh’s School of Dance is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

Recital Production Fees: 
The recital production fee is $150 for the first child. Additonal children will have a production fee of $100. If your child is in multiple classes, it will be an additonal $75 for each class. The production fee is splt into two equal payments due on  November 5th and February 5th. These fees will automatically process with your November and February tuition payments. The production fee includes costume, two recital tickets, alterations. recital t-shirt for dancer. and production expenses. For each additional child enrolled you will receive one extra ticket. Students who choose not to participate in our recital must fill out a non-particcipation form in person with administration staff by October 30th to avoid production fee. Production fee is non-refundable. Accounts must be paid in full by May 15th to participate in recital. 

Withdrawal and Refunds: 
One month written notice from the first of the month is required to discontinue any classes. Withdrawal must be done in person and will not be accepted over the phone. Withdrawal must occur before the 1st of the month or you will be charged for that month. To withdraw from classes a parent or adult student must :
– Inform school adminstration in person, and 
– Complete and sign a withdrawal form provided by the school office. 
All automatic withdraws will stop after giving written notice and must be received before the 1st of the month. Leigh’s School of Dance reserves the right to terminate lessons to any studetns without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given. 

Absences: 
Absences are excused and you may make up your lesson at any other scheduled class time that is the same class. If there is a short month, you are welcome to make up the missed weeks. Check with your teacher for the best time to make up. 

Care of Students: 
The dance school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 10  are to pick up their students in the classroom. Students are not to be left unattended at the school for an excessive time before or after class. 

Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: 
It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all dance school activities, such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. The school will post all such notices on the dance bulletin boards as well as e-mail monthly Dance Notes to keep paretns up to date with what is happening. Please make sure a current email address is on file with the dance school. It is the parent’s responsibility to regularly check in with the instructor or emails to ensure they are informed. It is the responsibility of the parents or adult students to inform the dance school of any address or telephone number change. 

Injuries: 
Parents, legal guardians of minor students, care givers, and adult students waive the right to any legal action against Leigh’s School of Dance for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity before, during, or after class time. 

Photo Release: 
The school is hereby granted permission to take photographs of the students to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the dance school creates. Permission is also hereby granted for Leigh’s School of Dance to copyright such photographs in its name. 

Dance School Closings: 
The dance school will be closed for the dates; Thanksgiving Break Nov 19th – 23rd, Winter Break Dec 20th – Jan 2nd, Spring Break March 11th – 15th, Memorial Weekend May 24th – 27th. The dance school will notify you by email if they close due to inclement weather. 

Miscellaneous: 
Any class with less than six students may be combined or canceled. If this occurs, you will be notified and every effort will be made to find a replacement class. No gum is allowed in class or in costume. Classes are closed to visitors except on scheduled visiting days. If your dancer stayed home sick from school, please do not bring them to dance that day. Make up classes aer available. 

Class Descriptions 

 Dance Fusion

This class is designed for the dancer who wants to have fun with movement and choreography. Musicality, body rhythms, and dance techniques will be integrated into this exciting new class that incorporates jazz, lyrical, and hip hop.

Tiny 2’s

Children in this class are introduced to song and dance in a relaxed and fun environment.  In this class creative movement and imagination are encouraged for the dancers to explore the world of movement.

Pre-School Combo

Dancers will be exposed to basic movement in tap. ballet, jazz, and tumbling. This upbeat structured class introduces correct technique and terminology. Dancers are taught self-confidence, balance, strength, and body awareness.

Dance Combo

This is an excellent class to introduce skills in tap, ballet and jazz. Dancers will focus on learning correct technique and terminology in a fun and comfortable atmosphere.  This class will improve self-confidence, balance, strength, and body awareness.

Technique

These classes are designed to build strength, flexibility and refine movement quality. Focusing on correct body placement and alignment. Technique is the basis of all fundamentals of dance.

Dance Team Combo 

This class will focus on the technicality of leaps, turns, kicks, and splits. Choreography will consist of jazz and hip hop, teaching precision of motion and team unison.

Hip Hop/Jazz/Tumble

This class is a combination of our dancers favorites. This class focuses on learning jazz technique and fun funky combinations in jazz and hip hop. Tumbling will help build upper body and core strength; providing dancers with more flexibility.

Gentle Yoga

Enjoy the many benefits of yoga including greater strength, vitality, flexibility, reduced tension, and inner calmness.  Using a gentle approach.

Adult Tap Stretch

Beginner and intermediate tappers will love this high energy class.  If you love tap now is the time!  It is great exercise and a lot of fun.  Tap shoes are required.

Adult Tap Jazz II

This intermediate class is for adults that have had prior dance training.  Dancers will continue to train in tap and jazz with stretch and strength incorporated.  Get a great workout and have fun while doing it.  Tap and jazz shoes are required.
